Over the past decades, LGBT+ student and staff networks have become more visible in Higher Education Institutions, as the social standing of LGBT+ communities has changed. But does increased visibility always equate to more institutional support? In this talk, Pippa Sterk argues that the value systems created within these communities can provide a critical and transformative vision of what Higher Education can look like.
About Pippa: Pippa is an interdisciplinary scholar, with a background in Film Studies and Gender Studies. Their doctoral thesis (funded through LISS-DTP) explored the experiences of volunteers working on LGBT+ initiatives within English universities, considering the evaluation of voluntary diversity work in the context of an increasingly neoliberal Higher Education sector. They are currently leading on a student/staff collaborative project which reflects on the possibilities for critical pedagogy in a marketised education…
